Method of Manufacturing -
In the absence of catalysts 2-propanol reacts with oxygen via a free-radical reaction to form acetone and hydrogen peroxide. Until the mid-1980s the Shell process used hydrogen peroxide for the manufacture of glycerol from propene. The theoretical yield of acetone based on glycerol produced is 1.26 kg/kg.
